Launch of Green Valley FoodLab

The Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Isabel Ferreira, and the Mayor of Idanha-a-Nova, Armindo Jacinto participated in the launch of the Green Valley FoodLab, the first temporary accommodation and business hosting center, in Idanha-a-Nova.

In this session, CoLAB, the Idanha Food Lab Collaborative Laboratory was presented. A substantial part of CoLAB work will focus on the Green Valley Food Lab, a Rural-Based Business Hosting Area that intends to create conditions to support companies and welcome workers.

This will be possible through the requalification and expansion of the existing building, creating infrastructures and services to support the activities of the 55 companies already installed (90% of which already produce organically) and allow the installation and attraction of other companies to the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). Soon, will also "operate the Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB) Idanha Food Lab, which brings together 14 entities from academia and business and is managed by Food4Sustainability - Association for Innovation in Sustainable Food. The construction works have already started and involve at this stage an investment of about 700 thousand Euros.

The Idanha Green Valley project wants to turn Idanha-a-Nova into a center of knowledge and innovation, in order to bring to the county entrepreneurs and companies related to rurality, sustainability, organic farming, among others. According to the mayor, these investments are structural for the creation of wealth and employment. The Green Valley FoodLab, has already created more than "300 jobs and only in temporary jobs hundreds of people are needed". The temporary accommodation and the business hosting center will be in an area of 800 hectares that includes the properties of Couto da Várzea, Ribeiro do Freixo and Lombas, as well as the Agro-Food Logistics Center of Ladoeiro.
