EIT Food Grow Workshops are back!

EIT Food Grow Workshops are back in Portugal. The first module "Rethinking Agriculture" will start on May 26th.

The first session of the 2023 EIT Food Grow Workshops will take place in the auditorium of Centro Cultural do Morgado, in Arruda dos Vinhos. "Demystifying the eco-regimes in PEPAC", will be the theme of this session. During it will be launched a brief clarification debate on PEPAC, focusing on the measures of the 1st pillar of the eco-regimes and the impact that these measures have on the Portuguese agricultural sector. To this end, will be present Ana Teresa Silva & Ana Antunes, from the Office of Planning and Policy and General Administration (GPP) and Professor Miguel Viegas from the University of Aveiro. For a more practical approach, Firmino Cordeiro, representing the Young Farmers Association of Portugal will address the implementation of these measures.

This session will be led by Food4Sustainability whose mission is aligned with the instruments developed in PEPAC in the figure of eco-schemes, supporting their implementation, promotion and dissemination in order to meet the goals of the Green Deal and Farm to Fork.

The remaining sessions will be dedicated to soil and plant health. On May 29, June 5, and June 12, in Fundão, topics of soil health parameters, plant pathology, and the microbiome will be addressed. Farmers, growers, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and anyone else interested can register for these training sessions free of charge through this link.

The Grow Workshops are a set of four training sessions created by Europe's largest food innovation community - EIT Food - with the aim of rethinking the practices and techniques used in agriculture, exploring the role of soil, and investigating new business models based on new technologies. The sessions provide its participants with knowledge, resources, and tools that will help them optimize their agricultural businesses. They will also learn how to reverse the negative effects of unsustainable farming practices, take advantage of new techniques and technologies to monetize their businesses, and network within the European sustainability ecosystem.

After the success of the previous editions, which had more than 1000 participants, for the second consecutive year, the organization of this initiative is in charge of the collaborative laboratory of Idanha-a-Nova, Food4Sustainability CoLAB, da BGI e dos parceiros Lund University, Queen's University, MaspexM, Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry (StMELF) and Polish Academy of Science. .
